Searching for skincare salvation on the internet can be a scary time. The information is vast, the options are endless, and adding to the cart is addictive. Here we’ve gathered a handful of our most commonly pondered myths and cleared the air/pores. This is what we found 👇
1. Body Wash Kills Bacteria... TRUE & FALSE
Soap works by dislodging germs and viruses from your hands so they can be wiped away, as explained by this fancy paper from Harvard University. Using soap rather than just washing with water makes you wash more thoroughly to remove the lather. Combining these two characteristics enables the soap to function correctly. In other words, soap helps remove germs and viruses from your skin so they can be washed off rather than killing them. However, body washes that contain harsher chemicals like alcohol and / or chlorine are designed to be antibacterial (and can be tough on your skin). Sundae does not contain any nasties, and so we favour washing away dirt and bacteria rather than using antibacterial chemicals.
2. Bar Soap Lasts Longer Than Body Wash... TRUE
Body washes usually run out more quickly than bars, which may often be as little as $1 and last for several weeks. However, because of their higher alkaline content than human skin, traditional bar soaps have the potential to be more drying than body washes or shower gels. If you have dry or sensitive skin, this is something to keep in mind. Contrarily, body washes often have lower pH values, making them preferable for more sensitive skin types.
Did you know - a Sundae shower foam lasts for approx. 4 weeks or 50 washes - that's a lot of whipped fun 😊
3. Body Wash Can Cause Acne... TRUE
Some body cleansers, specifically those designed to tackle acne, might cause outbreaks or aggravate current ones. According to experts, body washes containing potent oils or perfumes can also irritate skin and, in rare circumstances, result in outbreaks. The correct over-the-counter (OTC) product, such as medicated face and body washes, can be used to treat minor acne. Body washes frequently include salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, two anti-acne chemicals.

4. Body Wash Can Be Bad For Your Skin... TRUE
Read the label, bestie. Nasties like sulphates, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, triclocarban, formaldehyde, and formaldehyde-releasing chemicals, and all synthetic scents are best avoided in product formulations.

5. Body Wash Can Cause A UTI... TRUE
While artificial fragrances in personal care items may smell nice, they can irritate your urinary system and disrupt the delicate pH balance in your body, increasing your risk of infection. Avoid using unnaturally scented body washes, lotions, douches, and feminine hygiene products to prevent a UTI. Instead, choose gentle or unscented soaps and all-natural products to stay away from harsh chemicals that could irritate your delicate skin.

Myth 6. Coconut Oil Is Bad For Your Skin... TRUE (& FALSE!)
Experts advise against putting coconut oil on your face. It may be used as a cooking oil in the kitchen, to cure damaged hair, and even as a moisturiser for your body's skin. However, due to its high comedogenicity, coconut oil irritates the skin, clogs pores on the face, and worsens acne. You've been warned!
8. Olive Oil Is Bad For Your Skin... FALSE
Olive oil has a wealth of beneficial vitamins, lipids, and antioxidants that can help skin appear younger. It hydrates skin by retaining moisture, and its antioxidants may lessen the appearance of age symptoms. By eliminating the bacteria that causes acne, an olive oil-based soap can help reduce acne in those prone to it. Olive oil is also renowned for hydrating and moisturising skin.
